next week UK approves Pfizer Covid vaccine for rollout

The breaking news in the first round of our faxing has been approved for use in the UK by the medicines and healthcare products regulatory agency that C. M. R. H. I am as promised let speak now to the health secretary Matt Hancock who joins us live on breakfast as a significant smiling your face this morning Mr. Hancock and took us through this news and what it means to the people in the UK this morning. Well 2020 has been such a terrible year hasn't it and help is on its way news for so long we've been saying that if the vaccine is developed then things will get better in 2021 and now we can say when

next week UK approves Pfizer Covid vaccine for rollout

This vaccine is rolled out things will get back to we'll start that process next week so I'm obviously absolutely thrilled with the news I'm very proud that the UK is the first place in the world to have a clinically authorized vaccine ready to go the huge thanks to the scientists defies the company obviously to my team and I'm Kate bang and Alex all the business sector has done a huge amount of work on this but what it means for people is that from next week will be able to start rolling this out will start with those who are most vulnerable to coronavirus and it will you need to jobs so 21 days a pop at so and after that we will stop protecting people like this the protection comes with these these these 2 jobs and it will help save lives and then once we've started to protect the most vulnerable it will help us all get back to normal and back to all the things that we love can we go through some of the numbers if possible because I'm sure that's what I'll do is I'll be thinking this 1 okay, how many windows it arrives at that definition order of 10000000 which is enough to vaccinate 5000000 people do we know how many of those will be arriving next week.

Well, next week they'll be 800000 so it's the first stop will then deploy it at the speed that it's manufactured and the manufacturing, of course, is being done by size in Belgium and it so that will determine the speed at which we can roll it out as we've said all along we've always said even if we get something before Christmas we will have the bulk of the rollout in the new year and that's what will happen in this case I'm as you said earlier in the program we have 40000000 doses on the order of this vaccine the other early vaccine AstraZeneca vaccine is currently being assessed by the MHRA so that the goal will be to vaccinate through the NHS right across the UK as rapidly as the company can manufacture okay I know we've got you for about another 10 minutes and there are so many questions which I'm sure will wait we're gonna try to get as much information out of you as possible as we can.

I start with the 800000 that you said would arrive next week who will be on the list to get those. first batch if you like well the the the joint committee on vaccinations and immunizations long title but that that the clinical advises who advise all not prioritize action says according to clinical need the goal is to save as many lives as possible I stop hospitalizations and so it will start with the most elderly and with people in cat homes and of course that cameras at to make sure that those others don't catch it and then essentially it comes down the age range NHS stuff the rules so high on that priority list and also the clinically extremely vulnerable who we've supported throughout this crisis those who all 60 vulnerable to coronavirus the details of that will be so. It's out mid-morning by the J. CVI I'm the regulators will also be setting out the details all of the clinical trials I'm Y. day I felt able to approve this vaccine said that'll happen later this morning and the full prioritize action will be sent out.

And then the vaccine will be rolled out from next week okay so 100000 next week is it your understanding Mr. Hancock but that old 10000000 of those which are going to be manufactured in Belgium as you set will arrive before Christmas it was going to be at a longer process than that note the timing will depend determine be determined by how rapidly they can be manufactured so it is they say the numbers but we haven't put a figure on the numbers before Christmas about what we do know is that we can get started next week with that first light and then several million will be coming out throughout December and then people will get a get to be contacted by the NHS when it's that time and I urge you very strongly to come forward because of the seat being vaccinated it's good for you

it's approved as clinically safe by the regulator and it's good for your community as well to help keep the the the get this virus finally under control once and for all we spoke just a couple of weeks ago on the day that this was all announced and we told them about the huge logistical task but yeah going to be set before you know not just this country but countries all over the world as we try and vaccinate can you give our viewers an idea this morning how exactly it'll what we know don't we need to be stored at about minus 70 so where will this be taking place are we looking at specific areas like maybe that was not to get hospitals that will be used is it going to be G. P. surgeries how will it work yes so this 3 modes of delivery for this vaccine right across the UK and this morning I spoke to my devolve colleagues because the NHS, of course, is devolved in Wales and Scotland and Northern Ireland with doing this on a U. K. basis right across the the the anti-U. K. at the same time and these 3 modes of delivery the first is held.

Bittles themselves and of course most hospitals have the facilities to store something at minus 70 and that used to dealing with vaccines and drugs that have these characteristics the second is that we will set up vaccination centers that big center is a bit like the nightingale's project I'm including some of the nightingales and we'll set them up across the country and then the third is a community of mobile user with the support of GP's and pharmacists and others to be able to get out to people where they are now because of the minus 70 conditions all this vaccine that the model is harder because you obviously you have to go to places that have got the facilities that can safely store the vaccine walls are waiting to be injected but and that gets AstraZeneca

that vaccine which doesn't have the minus 70 requirement is better suited to that community model but nevertheless will be using this these 3 models hospitals the vaccination centers and the community rollout and in order to reach people old guided by adopt cynical priority I'm the privatization that'll be sent out later today are you mentioned a couple of those other vaccines I think I'd be really helpful can you give us any idea of that the time scale for those we know that Madera and I which I believe I am the U. K.'s ordered up to 7000000 died 7 yeah yeah that went forward for regulation at the day after FISA so are we to anticipate may be news on that in the next few days and what about the AstraZeneca Oxford university vaccine where are we on the time scale of that if you can Mr ankle so the maternal vaccine is only being manufactured for delivery in April so that still some time off as you say we have 7000000 all of that all in all that but that's fine 8.

Pull the other early vaccine is the Oxford university AstraZeneca vaccine and that's currently with the MHRA who aw assessing the detailed data from those clinical trials in the same way that that just assessed and authorize the the the files are faxing now the and the AstraZeneca Oxford vaccine has a number of advantages which is that it is I don't recall the minus 70 storage conditions and we got 100000000 of that all in order and so the timing of when we might hear on that is entirely in the hands of the regulator I brightly cults affect that and I don't know who the timing because they have to take all the time that they need I mean that moving the been an app that been absolutely brilliant 3 this we should pay tribute to the regulators not often regulates is get a shoutout for doing great work but that go with they have to take the time that they need to assess whether the that you can authorize that vaccine in the same way that they've taken the time to be able to authorize this satisfies of young tech park faxing this more.
